Birmingham
International Airport is a significant part of the Southeast's
astonishing growth, and in recent years has been a success story in
its own right as the premier gateway to Alabama, Birmingham
International Airport. It is one of the most conveniently located
airports (just 4.5 miles from downtown) in the region. The Airport
provides a base of employment for more than 4,000 people and over
100 companies are leasing tenants.
Guided by the Birmingham Airport Authority, Birmingham International
Airport since 1986 has more than doubled its scheduled commercial
flights. It has also increased air cargo operations, rental car
facilities, corporate aviation facilities, and other airport
facilities. Since 1990, the modernization and expansion program has
invested more than $300 million to improve virtually every aspect of
airport operations, including runways, terminal facilities, support
services, parking facilities, access roadways, and airport security.
Directions
to Birmingham International Airport:
From Atlanta: Take I-20 West to Birmingham. Continuing in
Birmingham on I-20 West, take the Exit directing you to Tuscaloosa
where I-20/59 merge West. Stay in left-hand lane. Take the first
exit after the sharp curve at Exit 129, Airport Blvd. At the traffic
light, turn left and continue to the Airport.
From Huntsville or Nashville: Take I-65 South to Birmingham.
At the junction of I-65 and I-20/59 merge into the left-hand lane
onto I-20/59 East. Take Exit 129, Airport Blvd. At the traffic
light, turn left and continue to the Airport.
From Chattanooga or Gadsden: Take I-20/59 West to Birmingham.
Take Exit 129, Airport Blvd. At the traffic light, turn left and
continue to the Airport.
From Montgomery: Take I-65 North to Birmingham. At the
junction of I-65 and I-20/59 merge into the right-hand lane onto
I-20/59 East. Take Exit 129, Airport Blvd. At the traffic light,
turn left and continue to the Airport.
