Standiford Field, name for
Dr. Elisha David Standiford, a local businessman and legislator,
opened in 1947. At the time, it was served by three airlines which
handled around 1500 passengers per week. In 1999, the airport handled
almost four million passengers. It is was one of the busiest cargo
operations in the country, acting as the central hub for United Parcel
Service.
There
is space for 4300 cars at the airport in a covered car park and a
long-term car park operated by the Regional Airport Authority (tel:
502 363 3490). Free shuttles run from the long-term car park to the
terminal building every 15 minutes. Passengers parked in the covered
car park can access the terminals from the lower level, via a subway

airport is located at the junction of I-65 and I-264. From the area
surrounding Louisville, the airport can be reached by taking Preston
Highway, which leads to Phillips Lane. Drivers should continue west
along Phillips Lane and then turn left onto the Freedom Way ramp and
follow signs for the airport. From Nashville, it can be reached from
the I-65 North, leading to I-264 West, exit 131. From Lexington, it
can be reached from I-64 West, which leads to I-264 West, exit 11.
From St Louis, it can be accessed from I-64 East to I-264 East (exit
1) to exit 11. From Cincinnati, the airport can be reached from the
I-71 South leading to exit 131.
